You know that feeling when you’re trying to sleep, but your brain won’t shut up? Or when you’re in the middle of a task, but your thoughts keep pulling you in every direction? That, my friend, is the noisy mind. And we all have one.

So, What Exactly Is the Noisy Mind?

The noisy mind is that constant internal chatter a stream of thoughts, worries, memories, plans, self-criticism, and random observations that never seems to stop. It’s like having a radio in your head that’s always on, constantly flipping between stations.

Sometimes it’s helpful reminding you of things you need to do or helping you solve problems. But a lot of the time, it’s just noise. Distracting. Overwhelming. Exhausting.

You might be thinking: Why does my brain do this?

Our brains are wired to think that’s their job. But modern life, with its overstimulation, constant connectivity, and stress, has turned up the volume way too high. We carry around information overload, social comparison, fear of missing out, and a low-key anxiety that hums in the background.

Signs Your Mind Might Be Too Noisy

  • You feel anxious or restless even when nothing’s wrong.
  • You replay past conversations or mistakes over and over.
  • You imagine worst-case scenarios for the future.
  • You struggle to focus or feel easily overwhelmed.
  • You can’t just be there’s always a thought racing through.

Don’t worry you’re not broken. You’re human.

So, How Can We Turn Down the Volume?

1. Get It Out of Your Head

Write things down. Journaling or brain-dumping your thoughts onto paper can create space in your mind. It doesn’t have to be structured just unload. You’d be surprised how freeing it is to let your thoughts live somewhere else for a bit.

2. Apply Schema (Yes, It Works)

Schema isn’t about stopping your thoughts. It’s about noticing them without getting sucked in. Try a few minutes of focused breathing, or just pay attention to your surroundings sounds, smells, textures. Your noisy mind won’t disappear, but it will soften.

3. Limiting The Input

Every scroll, every notification, every headline adds to the noise. Be ruthless about protecting your peace. Turn off unnecessary alerts. Take breaks from your phone. Let silence exist without filling it.

4. Do Not Remain At Sameplace

Walking, dancing, stretching whatever feels good. Movement brings your awareness back to your body and out of your head. Sometimes your mind just needs your body to take the lead.

5. Be Heard By Someone

Sometimes we need to be heard not just by ourselves. Whether it’s a friend, coach, or therapist, sharing your thoughts out loud can bring clarity and relief.

Final Thoughts

We at Mentoring Minds Counsellors understand that your mind will never be completely silent and that’s okay. The goal isn’t to shut it off but to learn when to listen, and when to gently say, not right now.

The noisy mind isn’t the enemy. It’s just a part of you that wants to be seen, understood, and guided. You’re not here to fight it you’re here to create space for calm within the chaos. And you can.
